Thalita did a 1960s look on me. Don’t you just love what she did with the eyes?! I can’t get over how talented she is. The makeover took awhile, but Thalita did a perfect job. Notice the eyelashes. I have never worn fake eyelashes, and it felt as if my eyelids were lifting weights. She applied a much darker base to my face. She said the 1960s was somewhat the beginning of women striving for that sun kissed look. She finished the look with nude lips. I asked Thalita how she knew so much about the makeup from different decades. She said she learns the most by watching movies. The look she gave me is very similar to Veruschka and Twiggy in the sixties.

A hot topic of discussion yesterday was lipstick. I organized and counted inventory of all fourteen Matte lipsticks. I love each of the names – so feminine! You can see all the names and colors on the main website under “Eyes and Lips.” Thalita talked about how a lipstick gives a woman a confident, and maybe even an intimidating, look. My favorite lip color from the Matte collection is the very popular Scarlett. It’s bold yet pink enough for a woman to still embrace her femininity.

Today Zoe, Mia, Allyssa, and I are all wearing Glow lipstick from the “Classic Creams” collection. It’s a bright red-orange coral and perfect for the summer! I am slowly but surely becoming more comfortable wearing color. I think I may have a new obsession with lipstick. I love it.
If you are all wondering, my Gemini makeup attempts are improving, and Linda thinks so too!

So that’s enough about the Gemini look until later. I have been counting and organizing so many different types of makeup brushes. Who knew there could be so many! I love seeing the variety and learning the different names and uses of each brush. This morning as I put on my eye shadow, I start thinking how makeup really is a form of art – I’m painting a picture on my eyelid with a brush. Maybe some of you are thinking “well, duh,” but I guess I had never thought about makeup in that way until this morning.

Okay, my attempts to create the Gemini look using the melody kit need help. Like I said before, I keep it simple when applying makeup, so therefore, too much color tends to scare me. Each Astrological melody kit has its own distinct makeup and includes an instructional booklet, but apparently I can’t follow instructions.

Thalita gave me a Gemini makeover, and as you can see from the picture above, she did such a great job. She really is so talented and was so sweet to walk through each step. She used the nude lip color on me, and suggested I try using the nude with the brown lip color in addition to the smoky eye. And if I’m ever feeling a little wild, I should also use the ruby lip color. Contrary to makeup marketing, purple eye shadows are not only for brown eyes but looks great with blue eyes too. So to all you blue-eyed bombshells, don’t be scared of purple!

My take-home assignment now is to attempt this same look. I won’t even come close to Thalita’s work, but hopefully Linda will approve this time. Wish me luck…

Also, something fun I learned from Linda: Geminis tend to have almond-shaped eyes.

Yesterday afternoon, Thalita instructed me to put together a makeup set. I wanted to create a fading effect with the colors organized from light to dark. I didn’t know how much I was in my own little world until Linda said something to me. I looked up, and my head felt like it weighed a ton. Linda then said, “This should be meditative.” Working with the different shapes and seeing all the colors really did take me away from reality for awhile and gave a chance to gather my own thoughts. Definitely a nice way to end the long day.

Upon meeting Linda for the very first time, one of the first questions she asks me is, “What is your sign?” I have never been seriously asked that question until I leave my home state of Georgia and fly to NYC for the summer. The topic of discussion, with which I am very unfamiliar, began as the New Yorker beside me on my flight asks me the same question in mid-conversation. On my first day as Linda’s intern (and my fifth day living in the city), four different people are curious about my sign. Linda gave me the Gemini makeup melody to experiment with over the next few days. My favorites so far are the lip colors because I was able to gently accentuate my natural lip color, which I find sometimes is too light.
I would consider myself a “Plain Jane” when it comes to makeup, but my first experience with Graffitigel was new and fun. I tend to play it safe with color always trying to stick with natural colors, so wearing the Graffitigel was definitely out of my comfort zone – especially when Linda began taking photos. Yesterday was an unusual adventure for me but so very exciting and refreshing. Lynley

When I’m working on a portrait or painting it takes a lot of focus, but for screening it’s a mixture of positioning, color, and physical activity that is also very relaxing. Like light-head gymnastics, it has me running around in short spurts. I do the screening here at the workshop and it gives me a chance to clear my head and change my perspective so I can go back fresh and focused on the business. The pillowcases with pillows inside are $65. and can be purchased over the phone as they are not online yet. Limited edition, like everything I do.
